Drink // Blackberry basil fizz
Happy Monday, friends! Hope your weekend went well! Mine was spent watching a Nets game, hanging out with friends from out of town, and finally enjoying some nicer, sunnier weather!
Warmer weather always seems to spark drink recipes for me - mainly because I love cold drinks, lots of ice, and experimenting with fresh fruits and herbs. I'm starting a herb garden this Spring so we'll see how far my
black turning green thumb takes me (positivity!). Stay tuned to see the whole process :) Are any of you starting herb gardens as well? Herbs are fairly easy to grow and so refreshing...I'm loving them included in not only my food, but drinks as well!
I made this Blackberry Basil Gin Fizz drink while experimenting muddling different fruits and herbs together. You can see in the photos that I used the handle of my wooden lemon/lime reamer to muddle the blackberries - and it naturally dyed it a nice cabernet ombre color! :) I love seltzer water, and adding fruits to it is one of my favorite things to do, so this recipe is along the lines of my go-to drink recipes. It tastes equally great with your favorite gin, or stay cool by leaving it without!

Blackberry Basil Fizz(az) makes 1 glass (~12-16 oz.)
3-5 fresh blackberries 3-4 basil leaves (stems ok too, why not?) Juice of 1/4 lime Sweetener to taste (I use honey or raw coconut nectar) Club soda or Seltzer water (or Tonic water if you prefer a sweeter drink) 2 oz. Gin (optional)
Muddle the blackberries and basil leaves together. Combine with soda, gin (optional), lime juice, ice, and sweetener. (In some instances, I've experienced the blackberries being sweet enough to leave out the extra sweetener)
